Lombok people still fear going home earthquakes still happen everywhere around the Island. Sunday August 5 around 6:45 PM a deadly earthquake with the magnitude of 6,9 on Richter scale destroyed many homes killing over 430 people. Close to 2000 were injured and tens of thousands fled from their houses and the shore fearing tsunami.
Recurrent powerful aftershocks traumatized inhabitants and force them to temporarily re localize. Over 65 000 buildings are damaged or destroyed. In many safe areas tents camps have been made available for the homeless families.
Lombok people still fear
The epicenter is situated in the northern near the highly populated area of Kerang Bajo . In this location over 80 % of buildings are significantly damaged.
As a result the whole Island social and economic activities have slowed down and most of tourists fled away. Although quakes still occur Lombok people starting to evaluate the damages. A huge National and International solidarity effort have been triggered to provide medical and live support to the victims.
The area of Senggigi beach is also badly damaged and lots of its inhabitants can not resume going home.

Some building need complete re-construction at a high cost for local and central government . Also a heavy financial burden for Local private sector that must invest further to continue their daily business .
At this point scary visitors are staying away from Lombok and as a result local businesses that are still standing have stopped .The legendary beach of Singgigi is empty of its usually consuming crowd.

As you will see in the video below the Island is very quiet living in the fear of any upcoming disaster . Also you can see how badly damaged some buildings are . Displaced people are still living in very harsh conditions hoping that this situation will calm down as soon as possible.
Lombok kids like their parents are very resilient are giving us a lesson of courage and hope . Lets pray for Lombok .
